Original vs Remix lets you hear a song's original next to its covers, live versions and remixes. There are no accounts, no ads and no tracking, and we never sell data. This page explains the little we do collect.
What we collect
- An anonymous install ID. A random code made when the app is first opened (or kept in your browser on the website). It isn't tied to your name, email, Apple ID or phone number.
- What you search for, typed, asked through Siri, Google Assistant or the car, or recognized with Listen (the song's title and artist).
- What you play and love: which versions you play, finish or heart, and which songs you open. This makes the heart counts and the "Most loved" lists.
- Basic technical details sent with every web request: the kind of device and app version, and your country setting, so we show music from the right Apple Music store.
These are kept under the install ID, so they are linked to that install, not to you as a person.
What we don't collect
- No name, email, contacts, photos, location or advertising ID.
- Your Apple Music account stays with Apple: connecting it only lets your iPhone play full songs. We never see your library or your account.
- Listen (iPhone) uses the microphone only while its screen is open, after you allow it. No recording is kept or sent to us; we get only the title and artist of the song it recognized.
- The announcer's voice is made on your phone (or in your browser). What it says isn't sent anywhere.
Who helps us run it
- Vercel hosts the website and the server, and Turso stores the data above.
- Google's Gemini reads the words you search for, to work out which song you mean. It gets only those words, not your install ID.
- Apple Music gives us songs, covers and 30-second previews. Spotify, Deezer and Tidal are asked for the same recording when you choose to open it there. None of them get your install ID.
- The voice is downloaded from GitHub (the apps) or Hugging Face (the website), which see the request like any download.
- Listen uses Apple's ShazamKit: your iPhone turns a few seconds of sound into a fingerprint that Apple matches to a song, under Apple's own privacy policy. It doesn't get your install ID.
- Siri and Google Assistant handle what you say to them under Apple's and Google's own privacy policies.
Keeping and deleting it
We keep this data while the service runs. Deleting the app (or clearing this site's data in your browser) removes the install ID from your device, and nothing new is linked to it. To have the data already sent deleted, email us and we'll remove it.
Children
The service isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, this page changes with it, with a new date at the top. Questions or requests: support@walterapps.com.
